EYES - THE CAPTAIN DROPS IN

I took this picture at our drop in morning in the village hall. Stephen is quite a character in the village. I don't think he could have ever been too bright but his mum so worries about him now as he is starting to get forgetful and doesn't always know where he is. She thinks he is getting alzheimers. He always tells the same stories every week several times. I know them all off by heart. But he is very helpful with getting out the tables and chairs and he always helps Anne by opening the doors so she can bring her wheelchair in. Anway I took this picture the morning after we'd had a lecture at CPS entitled "My Kind of People" by a photographer called Barbie Lyndsay. She had quite a few pics in this style with someone in the front and someone else behind which she preferred to having two people alongside eachother. I told Stephen he wasn't to smile. I really like his watery eyes and also the way his mum is looking so concerned for him. It got 9.5 points out of 10 at the New Members Comp and I am hoping it will do well on Tuesday for the Image of the Year comp. BP don't like it though - not even an Editors Pick!

Maybe it just looks better as a print.

I have some others of Stephen and his mum where they are laughing so much because I told them not to laugh! Also one with his mum sticking her tongue out in the background!

THIS IS REALLY FROM VAL - I really appreciated your comment Val so I figured I'd put it on Photique

"you know I really like this picture, I think you have captured a “lost look” about the man. 1 thing, the clock behind bothers me, the corner of my eye keeps going to it…… but you’re right, it is a wonderful way to do photos with one out front and a significant other just behind, softly in view. Good for you, and keep it, the family will be looking for it one day…..

ta hell with BP, they don’t appreciate the simpler yet moving part of photography?? maybe if you had ortoned him or put a donkey head on him it would have got a mention. What happened to a well taken thought of photograph. well I think it’s a “first”. Val"

This is me again!

Thanks Val - maybe I ought to think about the clock. It didn't seem to bother the last judge. I actually moved it from the ridge bit on the wall to balance it more and I thought there would be too much bare space without anything there. I suppose I could blur it more. Only nuisance is I would have to print the whole thing out again. The last judge did think his face was too dark on the r/h side but I kind of like it like that so decided to leave it. Actually, apologies, now I remember I didn't get 10 for that but for my zebras. This one got 9.5.

WOW! THIS IS REALLY NICE--it deserves awards--it has an old fashioned photography look, like SUPER good. I love it. GREAT WORK.

I am way behind, keep missing stuff, dang. DOn't want to miss THIS!

I didn't notice the clock until I read val's comment, and now it seems to catch my eye a little but boy I still like this.

Well I didn't get time to do anything about the clock so I left it. It came 3rd in the print competition. My zebra stampede in b&w came highly commended. Only got into the first 10 for a digital image but it didn't get highly commended. Still I am very pleased. My zebras also got accepted for the East Anglian something or other exhibition. So that was good apparently!
Off on hols tomorrow morning and will catch up when we return on Thursday 24th April.
