Winter Reflections

A smudge painting in progress with detail. Click images to see larger. You really need details to see what I've done--and I prolly should have posted the original.

I really love smudge painting. But it is time consuming, to do it right.

Yes it would be good to see the original. When you look at the detailed shot it doesn't look like your normal smudge painting to me. I like the effect. Have you used different brushes?
Actually I like the close up detail better on its own than the one with the reflections in. It is simpler.
The photo artist lady who spoke to our camera club last night did not appear to use smudge painting but she did actually print things out sometimes with just the edges and actually paint it in by hand and then scan it in again. She also did a lot of turning things to mono and then colouring them digitally. We should try that some time.

I like the detail better too--I like the big one, but the detail is more pleasing. I made it into it's own picture and worked on it some more.

I put a graduated layer of grey over the picture and then in the lower level selected the white and then in the grey level, deleted the grey that was over the white--which gave it a whole different look, more like a water painting than an oil.

Yes, maybe we can add that as a category or theme--even if we have to double up, it would be fun to try. We could choose either or both.

I will look for the original, BUT I don't know where it is, I sort of picked it out of a bunch at random on the Mac computer, which isn't even on right now. I can't get used to it.

I can't see where the actual smudging comes in on this. I sort of understand what you did and why it would give that effect but can't see the smudging.
