Orton Effect, Roses from our backyard, by Mary Stebbins Taitt. Whoops, I didn't mean to post both of these, only the second. The first one was already Ortonized once, but I reortonized it to get the second one. It didn't look Ortony enough at first. I used Picasa to do this as it is so quick and easy in Picasa. (Sorry some of you can't use it). Click on these images to get the full effect (of both focus and blur).

A very beautiful rose very full. I must go and find one that I took in someone's garden that was like this very heavy and so it drooped. Maybe I'll give that an ortonover. I'm not sure that I always like orton but this is a good one for showing the effect as when you see it big you can really see the difference of the focused and the glow from the out of focus.
Not keen on the deep dark shadows taking up so much space but it's one of those things that could grow on me if I look long enough. It certainly fulfills the rule of thirds.
I suppose I could have framed it vertically to avoid the shadows. I sort of liked them and seem to favor pictures with large empty spaces, dunno why.
It's more the vast contrast in light and dark that I'm not keen on. Don't think it suits the delicate roses.
What would be good--yellow or pale pink?
Of course, int he real world, that's what's there. BUT that doesn't make it good.
I could go out with some fabric?
They're int he backyard and still very pretty!
ROTFLOL I am just imaginining you out there with a roll of fabic hung from the trees. Hope you can find some yellow fabric! But not checkerboard LOL!!
OK, we'll see.
Actually, I have other stuff to do and ought to go do it instead of playing.
